  • 1.1 How do I receive or request money using Ribbon?

    Others send you money through your Ribbon profile. Your profile can be found at[your_username]. If my username is lily, my profile is at Simply share this profile with anyone who needs to pay you. Even if they don’t have a Ribbon account, they’ll be able to pay you using a debit card or a credit card.

    If you know the exact amount you’re owed, you can pre-fill an amount by appending it to the URL for your profile. For instance, directs me to Lily’s Ribbon profile with an amount of $3.45 pre-filled.
  • 1.2 How do I send money using Ribbon?

    You can send money to anyone with an email address through the Ribbon dashboard ( If the recipient has a Ribbon account, the funds will be deposited to their balance. If the recipient does not have a Ribbon account, they’ll receive an email with instructions on how to cash out using a bank account or a credit card.

  • 2.1 Are there limits to how much I can send and receive?

    For unverified users, the monthly limit you may cash out from your Ribbon balance is $500. A non-Ribbon user can be sent a maximum of $500 sent to their email address every month. A minimum of $5 must be sent to any email that is not associated with a Ribbon account.

    It’s always free to receive money. It’s free to send money using Ribbon as long as you’re using a debit card. If you’re using a credit card, there’s a 3% fee per transaction.

    Because of the high level of interest, we’re giving out accounts on a limited basis throughout early 2014. We can’t tell you exactly when Ribbon will be available for you, but we are working hard on getting you on the service as soon as we can.     We believe you’ll get the most out of Ribbon if you have some friends using it with you, so we want to give you an account sooner if you get friends to join. Tell them to sign up using your unique referral link, which can be found in the email confirmation that we sent when you signed up.

    The groups reflect how soon we’re ready to give you access to your Ribbon account. Everyone starts waiting in group 3, moves to group 2, and ends up in group 1 when they’re next in line to get an account.

    Everyone moves to a higher group over time as we release more accounts, but you can move up the groups when you refer your friends to join. If 3 of your friends join using your referral link, you’ll move up to group 2. If 5 of your friends join, you’ll move up to group 1.

    Though your friends don’t need an account for you to transact with them, the experience is even more seamless when both parties have an account. The earlier you invite them, the earlier they’ll get an account. As an added bonus, you’ll also move to a higher group when you invite friends!
